Position Summary: The Student Development & Support Services Director functions as a key member of the Say Yes to Education (SYTE) Student Development & Support Services Team to: 1) strengthen students? identification with the NYC Teachers College SYTE Chapter, 2) identify students? academic, social/emotional, and talent development needs and appropriate services, programs, and resources to address those needs, 3) monitor and support individual student?s progress and achievement of academic, social/emotional, and talent development goals in preparation for admission to selective high schools and college, 4) provide targeted services to achieve those goals (e.g. advisory, theme-based groups, crisis intervention, individual, group, family counseling, and adolescent literacy activities), and 5) collaborate with members of the Student Development & Support Services Team to design high school interventions where needed.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of and demonstrated experience in: 1) secondary school counseling and social work services and/or secondary school teaching and/or coordination and/or administration 2) implementing high school appropriate academic, social/emotional, and talent development services and programs necessary for student progress and achievement, 3) the New York City public high school admissions process and choice system, 4) NY State academic standards, curriculum, instruction, and social expectations for students, 5) a case management/case conferencing approach to monitoring student progress, and 6) a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary work environment.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities: ? Provide regular assessment and monitoring of student academic performance, talent development, and social/emotional well being. o Utilize research based assessments and monitoring data to determine students? needs and to monitor students? academic, social, emotional, and talent development progress toward SYTE goals ? Provide direct academic and social-emotional support services o Facilitate individual and regular small group advisory sessions o Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling o Facilitate advisory sessions for students that focus on but are not limited to the following content areas: high school transition and adjustment, high school admissions, career pathways, talent development, academic habits of mind and work, school demands, peer and adult relations, and adolescence issues. o Provide crisis intervention and follow-up for youth as needed ? Provide referrals to youth and their families for long term counseling o Identify and facilitate referrals and linkages to academic and social community resources and the appropriate agencies and services; monitor implementation of referrals and services. ? Lead counseling groups to help students achieve positive academic and social/emotional outcomes. ? Manage relationships between students and various stakeholders o Act as an advocate and liaison with high school contacts at multiple assigned school sites. o Communicate and coordinate services with multiple school leadership teams, including but not limited to high school counselors, principals, and other service providers to develop and monitor individual growth plans that support SYTE academic, social-emotional, and talent development goals and growth plans. o Collaborate closely with teachers to develop academic improvement plans and academic advancement plans in school and on Saturday for diverse students: struggling students, students who are on track, and students who are thriving academically. o Communicate regularly with families to inform them of student progress, high school preparation plans, and other related information. ? Collaborate with the Student Development & Support Services Team to design and facilitate a high school family engagement program including but not limited to parent retreats and forums, recreational/social activities, referrals for support services, and parent advisement and advocacy for the purpose of enhancing students? progress and success. ? Navigate the high school application process and collaborate with the Student Development & Support Services Team and appropriate school staff to design a high school counseling, application, and admissions program. ? Implement and maintain an online SYTE student networking system. ? Conference on a weekly basis and collaborate with the Student Development & Support Services Team and the Assistant Director of Academic Services & Programs to analyze student data, to identify student and family needs, effectively plan student services and programs, share best practices, and to respond to changes in the educational and social-emotional field. ? Collect student/family data and maintain student/family records and other documents required by SYTE (e.g., report cards, progress reports, assessments, attendance, academic progress, and other pertinent records) and update the SYTE data management system for student/family case load in accordance with SYTE deadlines. ? Participate in all Say Yes meetings and professional development. ? Perform additional duties as needed which may require working evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications: ? Masters in Social Work or Education with at least five years relevant experience post-masters; experience working in a social work or education capacity with adolescents and teens and their families. ? Minimum of 3 years experience working in a social service or education capacity in or with schools ? Knowledgeable of research based assessments appropriate to adolescent academic, social/emotional, and talent development. ? Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development and psychology ? Demonstrated track record of success working with at risk students, families, and schools on the design and implementation of interventions to improve and/or accelerate students? social/emotional behaviors and performance in academic and/or the arts ? Demonstrated experience implementing case management processes and collaborating with colleagues ? Demonstrated experience leading individual and group counseling and advisory sessions ? Demonstrated experience developing individualized action plans for student progress ? Demonstrated experience implementing formal assessments, analyzing results, and using data to inform determination and application of interventions ? Demonstrated ability to manage a case load of students with diverse needs so that all students are served ? Knowledgeable about the NYC high school admissions process ? Knowledgeable in MS Office, email, and internet ? Excellent written, organizational, and time management skills ? Demonstrated experience in data based decision making ? Ability to communicate effectively in settings with multiple stakeholders ? Demonstrated sensitivity to a diverse population of high school students and their families ? Must be a team player and enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment (able to take initiative and perform in a fast paced, fluid environment)

Preferred Qualifications: ? Clinical social work experience in an educational setting ? SIFI certified ? Knowledge of and experience using psychotherapeutic processes and providing crisis intervention ? Proficient in Spanish ? Experience working with ELL and Special Education students ? Demonstrated initiative in problem solving ? Strong analytic decision making skills ? Demonstrated experience implementing a strengths based approach to problem solving ? Experience accessing social networks and other service providers and organizations ? Demonstrated ability to collaborate and to plan strategically with colleagues in order to meet annual organization and chapter goals.
