All-Big 12 DE headed for NFL draft

The TCU Horned Frogs, who led the Big 12 in total defense, suffered a big loss Monday when defensive end Stansly Maponga elected to skip his senior season and head to the NFL Draft according to a source.

The 6-2, 265-pound Maponga missed two games for TCU because of an injury but was still selected to the All Big 12 first team by the coaches and the second team by the Associated Press.

Maponga had 22 tackles and 2? sacks for the Frogs.

Maponga started 12 games as a freshman and was an all-Mountain West Conference first teamer as a sophomore.

Despite the loss of Maponga, the Frogs appear to be loaded defensively. TCU will return nine of its 11 starters defensively. Maponga and departing senior Kenny Cain are the only players on the two-deep defensively who aren?t slated to return this fall.

Last week TCU receiver Josh Boyce, who has already graduated, made the decision to forgo his senior season for a shot at the NFL.
